Are missing teeth making your life a misery? Missing teeth can affect not only the look and function of your mouth, but can also impact on your confidence. However, the solution is simple. We can create a ‘bridge’ between your teeth, adding a replacement tooth and restoring your smile.
Whether you have lost a tooth or teeth due to an accident or decay, it can affect the way that your mouth performs, having a detrimental effect on the way you eat, drink or speak, as well as on your appearance. Many people will feel self-conscious about having a missing tooth, especially if the gap is noticeable. The answer could be a bridge. This literally “bridges” the gap between your teeth, replacing your missing tooth or teeth with artificial ones.
How your treatment works
A bridge works by creating a replacement false tooth or teeth and anchoring them to the natural teeth on each or one side of the gap – creating a permanent bridge. Modelled on your existing teeth the replacement teeth are designed and created in the dental laboratory to match the size, shape and colour of the missing teeth so that the bridge becomes almost indistinguishable from your real teeth. The bridge is cemented into your mouth, so unlike dentures, it is fixed in place and can’t be removed. This gives you more security and a stable base for eating, drinking and talking and restoring your appearance. Our skilled dental team can recreate a full and natural smile.
Having a bridge fitted
First, your dentist will talk you through the whole procedure so you understand what is happening at each stage. Your dentist will need to make sure that your surrounding teeth are strong and healthy enough to support the bridge structure. Once this is confirmed, they will then take impressions of the area and prepare the replacement teeth.
You will need to have the teeth on either side of the gap crowned. The replacement tooth is fixed between the crowns and the structure is then fitted neatly over the existing teeth. This may take a couple of visits to the Practice. Once fitted, your bridge will be a permanent support for your replacement teeth and with the right oral care, it should last a lifetime.
