If you have had teeth weakened by serious decay, a large filling or the after effects of root canal therapy, then you may need a crown. A crown will fit over your damaged tooth like a “cap” restoring the function and longevity of the tooth.
Traditionally a dental crown treatment would require numerous appointments with the dentist and take at least a week. At Tongwynlais Dental we use the most cutting edge Cerec technology and can now create and fit your crown in one session, quickly and comfortably. You’ll leave the Practice with your tooth and smile fully restored in just a few hours.
How the treatment works
With Cerec technology we can take an infra-red digital scan of your tooth and create a 3D image. This 3D image is then edited for precisions such as indentations, ridges, pits, and fissures. Our in-house milling machine can produce a ceramic restoration while you wait, carving the replica out of one single ceramic block. Your dentist can then fit the new crown to your tooth, all in one visit. Due to this advanced technology the restoration should be a perfect fit. Your crown will be colour matched to your existing teeth, so should blend in seamlessly in your mouth, indistinguishable from your natural teeth.
When would I need a crown?
Your dentist may suggest a crown when there is not enough tooth structure left to support a filling, after root canal therapy, to hold a dental bridge in place or for cosmetic reasons. Our crowns can be colour matched to your existing teeth, and will restore the functionality and strength of your natural teeth. With the right oral care routine, your crown should last a lifetime.
